The Best for Baby Too Improvement Collaborative meets bi-monthly for a so-called Brown Bag meeting (yes, we pilfered the term from the Americans), which is a lunchtime meeting where we provide the participants with a sandwich lunch and hot drinks.

The Brown Bag meeting is the new format, following on from the previous day-long workshops, where people from across the perinatal pathway got together to talk about the issues that were important to them and in particular to focus on what they might be able to do as a system to improve social and development outcomes for children by addressing – through the health system – some of those social risk factors and by building up protective measures. The NHS has to focus on the best clinical care, but for many people living with the impact of deprivation and isolation, other things that impact on their lives are just or almost as important.

The Brown Bag meetings provide a platform for people to keep talking and keep learning from each other. The group is still as keen as it was to include a variety of voices and perspectives, especially those from mothers, and enable creative ways for those voices to make themselves heard. On 13th December, Tessa Buddle and Collective Encounters will take centre stage, facilitating a session on Creativity in Co-Production.
