Taking Sound City’s offer to plan and deliver their Music Careers Days was a no-brainer for us: a series of events to introduce secondary school students to the variety of jobs in the music industry is right up our street. The planning included meeting with the Music Education Hubs in each of the five Merseyside boroughs; programming the events to make them interesting for young people; contracting panellists, workshop facilitators and sourcing the venues; and finally producing the processes for schools to register students, while safeguarding the young people all the way.

Leafing through Sound City’s extensive roster of mind-blowingly talented young artists was a real delight. And it resulted in each event boasting a live performance of a young, signed artist. Both Alex Spencer and Cariss Auburn demonstrated that a career as a performing musician is within reach. What was more, both musicians are absolutely sound humans, who gave the young people the courage to talk and ask questions.

We organised workshops that gave the students insight into and hands-on experience of other professional avenues in the music industry such as music production, social media and promotion, DJ & mixing and so on. Bring on the future generation in music!
