Mad Pride Liverpool: Circus of the Absurd
More playful and irreverent than ever, Liverpool Mad Pride celebrated the 250th birthday of Circus in the UK with the theme ‘Circus of the Absurd’.
Mad Pride Liverpool rolled into town for the 3rd year in April 2018, this time with a circus theme. Returning to its stomping ground in the Baltic Triangle, ‘Liverpool Mad Pride: Circus of the Absurd’ took place at the packed-to-the-rafters District, a worthy host of the all-day, all-guns-blazing madness.
In order to honour 250 years circus in the UK, we teamed up with Freefall Aerial Circus, Bring the Fire Project, The Secret Circus, Leebo Luby and Teatro Pomodoro to put on a programme bursting with burlesque and cabaret. Performances alternated with brilliant, high-energy sets from Mamatung, Loose Moose and community bands the Strumbrellas and the Silver Liners with Chanel & the Circus from the US topping the bill.
Drumming kicked off the day with the Liverpool Samba Band and brought it to its orgasmic close with the Mad Pride Parade: a beast that wound itself around the Baltic with light, lanterns, loopiness and, of course, drumming. Katumba off-shoot Beat It, a group of people drumming for good mental wellbeing, had their first outing at Mad Pride and their set was mind-blowing!
Can’t remember ever having so much fun programming a line-up nor managing an event!
